Visualisation is a powerful tool for achieving goals. By creating a mental image of your desired outcome, you can motivate yourself to take the essential steps to bring it to fruition. Let’s get into it. I will share the key visualisation principles and how to use them to achieve your dreams.
The Power of Visualisation
Visualisation is a powerful tool because it can tap into the subconscious mind. When you visualise yourself achieving your goals, your subconscious mind starts to believe it is possible, which can lead to increased motivation, focus, and determination.
Visualisation can also help you to overcome self-doubt and fear. When you visualise yourself succeeding, you are more likely to believe in yourself and take action.
I use this tool to turn on my model vibe to envision my future self before it happens.
When I started modelling, I was constantly nervous and unsure of myself. I would get rejected from casting calls, doubt my abilities, and wonder if I was good enough. I would compare myself to other models and didn't measure up. Keeping my head up and believing in myself was a constant battle. Then, when I got a job, I was scared of failing and thought, "What am I doing here? I'm not good enough."
I was visualising on the wrong side of the spectrum.
I'm sure many of you can relate to this: thinking your important big day tomorrow will be great and successful. Talk yourself into it and rehearse it in your mind. That’s visualisation. It can be so vivid and real that it feels like it’s already happening. Visualisation is a powerful tool that can help you achieve those things.
How to Practice Visualisation
Find a quiet place: Choose a place where you can relax and focus.
Get comfortable: Find a restful posture and close your eyes.
Create a vivid mental image: Envision going through the process of achieving your goal from start to finish. See yourself as successful and happy.
Add details: Include as many specifics as possible in your visualisation. What do you see? What do you hear? What do you feel?
Feel the emotions: As you visualise, try to feel the sentiments you would experience if you were achieving your goal.
Repeat regularly: Practice visualisation consistently for best results.
Additional Tips
Be specific: The more specific you are in your visualisation, the more powerful it will be.
Believe in yourself: It is essential to believe that your goals are achievable.
Take action: Visualisation is not enough. It would be best if you also took action to achieve your goals.
Visualising helps increase your internal feeling of confidence and your ability to project it. Whenever I have a booking, I find time in between while on the bus or coach to visualise how I would like the day to go. Sometimes, even the night before, I visualise the following day during my in-between times.
I make my visualisation as detailed as possible, including everything that involves my five senses, from stepping out of the house to the bus journey to the front door, lunchtime, and shooting.
You can visualise anything you want, like going for an important job interview. You could close your eyes and imagine yourself walking into the office, shaking hands with your new boss, and feeling confident and capable in your new role. You could visualise the look and feel of the office, the sounds and smells, and the sense of excitement and pride you'd feel on your first day. You could even imagine the conversations you'd have with your colleagues and the sense of accomplishment you'd feel as you tackle new challenges.
Set a clear goal. What do you want to achieve? Be specific. Don't just say, "I want to be happy." You have to start visualising your process of achieving it. See yourself succeeding; see yourself feeling proud and confident. Make it vivid. Use all your senses. See the bright lights, hear the applause, and feel the adrenaline rush. The more vivid your visualisation, the more effective it will be.
It's not just about the result—it’s about the process, too. See yourself taking the necessary steps to achieve your goal. Put in the hard work and persevere through the tough times.
